King’s Builders has officially been awarded a major infrastructure contract valued at TZS 28.2 billion for the construction of a key road section connecting Holili and Tarakea, a strategic border corridor between Tanzania and Kenya.
The contract was signed on July 30, 2025, between the Tanzania National Roads Agency (TANROADS) and King’s Builders, marking a significant milestone in the government’s ongoing efforts to upgrade critical transport infrastructure in northern Tanzania.
Project Scope and Specifications
The project involves the construction of a 10-kilometre tarmac road section, forming part of the broader 52.8-kilometre Holili–Tarakea corridor, which is being upgraded in phases to bitumen standard.
This corridor is a vital component of the regional road network, linking agricultural production zones and facilitating cross-border trade through the Holili–Taveta border post.
Strategic Importance
The Holili–Tarakea road is a high-priority infrastructure project due to its economic and logistical significance:
- Enhances cross-border trade between Tanzania and Kenya
- Improves transport efficiency for goods and services
- Supports tourism development in the Kilimanjaro region
- Strengthens regional integration within East Africa
Government authorities have emphasized that upgrading this road will reduce transport costs, improve accessibility, and unlock economic opportunities for communities along the corridor.
Government Commitment
The Government of Tanzania, through TANROADS, continues to prioritize investment in strategic road infrastructure as part of its broader economic development agenda. The Holili–Tarakea project is aligned with national plans to improve connectivity in border regions and support trade-driven growth.
King’s Builders Role
As the appointed contractor, King’s Builders will be responsible for delivering the project to the highest engineering and quality standards, ensuring durability, safety, and long-term value.
This project reinforces King’s Builders’ position as a trusted partner in delivering large-scale infrastructure solutions that drive economic development and regional connectivity.
Conclusion
The Holili–Tarakea road project represents a significant investment in Tanzania’s transport infrastructure. With construction now underway, the project is expected to play a transformative role in enhancing mobility, trade, and socio-economic development in the Kilimanjaro region and beyond.
