In the Kilimanjaro Region, the Minister for Works, Abdallah Ulega, has directed the Tanzania National Roads Agency (TANROADS) to closely supervise the contractor, Kings Builders, to ensure timely completion of an emergency infrastructure project at Kileo along the Himo Junction–Same trunk road.
The project involves the construction of seven emergency bridges and approximately 1.6 kilometers of connecting roads. At the time of inspection on November 29, 2025, the project had reached 70% completion.
The Minister emphasized that road construction must go hand-in-hand with the installation of street lighting, pedestrian access routes to nearby residential areas, and the development of supporting infrastructure such as bus stops and motorcycle (bodaboda) stations. Additionally, measures are being implemented to redirect the Ng’ona River to its natural course to prevent flooding and protect the road infrastructure.
He further directed that at least 15 to 20 streetlights be installed in the project area to enhance safety and enable economic activity both day and night, in line with the national development vision under President Samia Suluhu Hassan.
The project, valued at approximately TZS 6.8 billion, is being implemented by Kings Builders under the supervision of TANROADS’ TECU unit and is scheduled for completion in December 2025.
