Strategic Bridge Infrastructure Development in Dar es Salaam

Dar es Salaam Regional Commissioner, Hon. Albert Chalamila, conducted an inspection of the ongoing construction of the permanent Jangwani Bridge, along with temporary bridges being built in Kigogo and Mkwajuni.

The temporary bridges are intended to facilitate movement for citizens while construction of the main Jangwani Bridge continues. During the visit, Chalamila emphasized that the project is part of the implementation of the ruling party’s development agenda and instructed the contractor to ensure high-quality work and operate on a 24-hour schedule to meet deadlines.

He noted that the Jangwani area has long experienced severe flooding during rainy seasons, and the new bridge will provide a permanent solution. The government has already released TZS 14 billion out of the total TZS 97 billion required for the project.

The Dar es Salaam Regional TANROADS manager stated that the project is expected to take 24 months to complete, with progress currently at 7%. Construction of temporary bridges in Kigogo and Mkwajuni is expected to be completed within 10 months, alongside an emergency road to maintain traffic flow.

District Commissioners and regional leaders expressed appreciation to President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan for funding the project, noting that it will significantly reduce flooding challenges and improve transportation efficiency for residents.
